Working Meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries

On Sunday, November 9th, 2025, an important working meeting was held at the headquarters of the Ministry, bringing together senior officials from several central directorates.

The Algerian Veterinary Space (AVS) was represented by Dr. Cherif Toufik, Vice President in charge of Training and Practical Development (EVA Masterclass).
During the meeting, he presented the major field concerns raised by Algerian veterinarians, with a particular focus on the inhumane treatment of stray dogs and cats—including shootings, poisoning, and electrocution—and the urgent need to replace these practices with scientifically proven, humane solutions.

Key Outcomes of the Meeting

  • Immediate provision of rabies vaccine and the launch of a nationwide vaccination campaign.

  • Adoption of the “Capture – Neuter – Vaccinate – Release (CNVR)” system as a sustainable scientific solution for population control and rabies prevention.

  • Integration of veterinary students into upcoming campaigns to enhance practical training and field experience.

The Algerian Veterinary Space also presented a proposal for broad volunteer participation in future operations, emphasizing the training of veterinarians and students in mass spay/neuter surgeries and vaccination protocols—a proposal that was met with strong support and optimism.

Shared Commitment and Coordinated Vision

Organizations and associations present at the meeting agreed on a unified vision and reaffirmed their determination to collaborate, exchange expertise, and work collectively toward a single goal: animal welfare, public health, and environmental safety.

We registered a strong administrative willingness to change the current situation—one that satisfies no one—and to coordinate with other relevant ministries to establish effective, science-based solutions. Additional meetings are already being planned in the near future to maintain momentum and ensure continued progress for our country.
